NEED TOURIST INSTRUCTIONS FOR VAISHNO DEVI YATRA, INDIA, JAMMU
Vaishno Devi Mandir (Hindi: वैष्णोदेवी मन्दिर) is one of the holy Hindu temples dedicated to Shakti, located in the hills of Vaishno Devi, Jammu and Kashmir, India. In Hinduism, Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani and Vaishnavi, is a manifestation of the Mother Goddess.
The temple is near the town of Katra, in the Reasi district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is one of the most revered places of worship in India. The shrine is at an altitude of 5200 feet and a distance of approximately 14 kilometres (8.4 miles) from Katra.[1] Approximately 8 million pilgrims (yatris) visit the temple every year[2] and it is the second most visited religious shrine in India, after Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board maintains the shrine. A rail link from Udhampur to Katra is being built to facilitate pilgrimage. The nearest airport is Jammu Airport which has very high flight frequency. All leading domestic airlines have their services to Jammu Airport.1. FIRST OF ALL YOU NEED TO - GO TO JAMMU RAILWAY STATION (India) ----
2. SECONDLY - YOU NEED TO TAKE A BUS OR TAXI TO ---- KATRA (Jammu) - Anywhere within India.
3. Now This is Katra - here you need to take a room in Dharamshala or if you like more Luxurious Room --- then you need to Book a Hotel at Katra. (to book hotels see our Yellow Pages Sector in this Same Blog / Website or search google for 'Hotels in Jammu Katra'.
4. Then if you need rest --- take rest - otherwize - plan your Yatra (holy visit) according to time
IMPORTANT NOTE :
---------- A. ALWAYZ REMEMBER TO TAKE YATRA (TRAVEL) SLIP BEFORE BEGINING. AS THIS IS NECESSARY BY GOVERNMENT.
---------- B. TAKE 1 - 2 RAIN-KOAT (RAIN-COAT) ACCORDINGLY.
---------- C. REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR MEDICINES AS PER YOUR DOCTOR.
---------- D. ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PLAN YOUR YATRA (HOLY VISIT) - ACCORDING TO AARTI TIME (FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU START YOUR JOURNEY EARLY MORNING - SAY : 5:30 - 6:30 am ---- then this is very good time - because total tracking length of the road is - arround 15 - 20 Kilometer, Complitely - Arround - 70 - 80 Kilo Meter Approx.(the middle point is - Ardh Kumari or Kuvari).-------- If you have joints or other locomotive problems - it is better to take a horse or PALKI (cart type) it will cost arround 1000 for horse in peak season year 2011, palki will cost arround Rs. 3000 - 5000 - according to weight, HELICOPTER facility is also available if you need. (till sanjhi chat).
Starting Point : Katra :This is the Starting Point called Katra (or Katda) Market - from where the journey starts. This is very near to Katra Bus Station (say - arround - 1/2 - to - 1 Kilometer approx.).
Sometime there is very heavy rain or snow fall take place.
so it is important to take some raincoat or umbrella with you. :-)
Note : there is a Battery Operated Auto (Aoto Car) facility for Cenior Citizen or Physically Disable People from Ardh Kuwari (it is better to take guidelines from local shops)Note : You can borrow a stick (LATHI) from local shops at the starting point i.e. KATRA shops if you are going through track (by road).
Note : Take Plenty of water before and in - between the whole journey - as de-hydration is a common problem in the yatra (tracking).
Note : Take Parsaad or Flowers / Narial (coconut) as per your convenience.Note : Never take Leather Goods with you in the Yatra - as leather goods are not allowed in Bhawan (temple).
Note : Never take jewelery and/ or Lot of Cash with you, because of too much rush at Bhawan.
Note: Never take animal products (meat or meat products with you).
Note: Never take Narcotics or Drugs with you as this is an offense in yatra.
Note: Never take Professional Video Coverage on tracks -- as this / these are not allowed.
Note: Never feed Monkeys in Vaishno Devi Yatra - as feeding is prohibited in the whole tracking (or yatra).
Note: Never take Junk Food with you as these are not safe in yatra / Journey.
Note: Wear decent cloths in Yatra - as nudity is not advisable (allow) in yatra.
Note: Always take warm cloths with you - as there is no guarantee of weather at height.
Note: Never take un-necessary jewellery with you - as this is unsafe.
Note: Never take un-necessary cloths or garments with you at Bhawan as these have no use - but only take 2 - 3 set of garments as per your convenience.
Note: If you are planning to take a horse - it is advisable - to fix the rates with them before - starting journey.

The Yatra is safe for elders (or old people) but be careful about your health and it is better to consult with your family doctor before Yatra (Holy Travel).
Note : in few / some cases - bare feet yatra is not advisable.
